Poincaré disk · Shippo tessellation
A perfectly regular grid of overlapping circles — the Japanese Shippo pattern — is placed inside a disk that models hyperbolic space. In this geometry distance grows without bound towards the rim, so equal-sized tiles look smaller and smaller near the edge. Moving the gravitational pole α slides the whole lattice through the disk without distorting a single angle; the same mathematics describes light paths near a massive body and the layout of hyperbolic networks.
