Jacobi theta · domain colouring of a lattice function
Colour every point of the complex plane by the value the theta function takes there: hue is the phase angle, the dark ridges are where the value collapses towards zero. Theta functions were invented to solve heat flow in a bar and to count points in an infinite crystal lattice — the same series still underpins elliptic curves and string theory partition functions.
