Every sound is a sum of pure tones. The Fourier transform splits the signal on the bus into its frequency components: the curve shows how loud each frequency is right now, the fainter line above it holds the loudest value each band has reached. Underneath, the same data is painted over time — bright vertical streaks are transients, steady horizontal lines are sustained tones. This is exactly what an audio engineer or an acoustics lab watches when tuning a room or hunting a resonance.
